10. Carl Hansen - Director, Producer & Disability Advocate

Meet Carl Hansen! Carl is a Director, Producer, and Disability Advocate and he lives in Los Angeles. He's an award-winning filmmaker and Emmy-winning producer who has been a Co-Executive Producer and Supervising Producer on such shows as the cultural phenomenon Shark Tank and the groundbreaking Boston Med. He's also an acclaimed timed-short filmmaker with his team, Cultural Detritus. Since 2005 they have made 29 films, many of which have gone on to win several awards. As if that’s not enough, Carl is also a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion, most especially for people with disabilities, in the Entertainment industry. Most importantly, Carl is one of my oldest friends and I’m super excited to share this laughter-filled conversation with you all.  We chat about our early shared passion for film, the importance of paying it forward, and what it means to be a diversity & inclusion advocate especially when it comes to the disabled community and Hollywood.

Carl’s Bio -

Carl Hansen is a disability ally and advocate as well as an award-winning filmmaker and Emmy-winning producer who has been involved in various capacities with many successful unscripted and variety series. He won a Sports Emmy award for his involvement in “100,000 Cameras: Ohio State at Michigan” (Fox Sports) and was previously nominated for “89 Blocks” (FOX Sports). As a Co-Executive Producer he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for "Shark Tank" (ABC). He was Supervising Producer on the critically-lauded and award-winning docu-series "Boston Med" (ABC News) where he was instrumental in coverage of the 2nd partial-face transplant in the U.S. and which led to many people signing up as organ donors for the first time. He is currently the director of production for Fox Sports Original Programming.

Carl is also an acclaimed timed-short filmmaker - producing and directing films from conception to completion in very strict timeframes with his team, Cultural Detritus. Since 2005 they have made 29 films, many of which have been Official Selections at multiple film festivals around the world where they have won a number of awards.

Carl is a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion, most especially for people with disabilities, in the Entertainment industry. Originally from Beverly, Massachusetts, Carl is a graduate of Beverly High School and Ithaca College. He resides in Los Angeles..
